Ellis and Moore ‘s Heathrow Truss Design with IDEA Software
This article discusses a project by Ellis and Moore at Heathrow Airport. The article focuses on the design of steel truss connections via IDEA StatiCa Connection.
This article explores the challenges and the solutions in the complex connections for a permanent service bridge truss. Furthermore, the article goes further by making a comparison between traditional methods with the innovative approach of utilising IDEA Connection. In doing so, also highlights the advantages of realistic modelling, Eurocode Compliance and economical designs. The project illustrates the IDEA Connection‘s effectiveness in complex structural engineering tasks.
IDEA Connection was utilised for the analysis and designing of the steel truss structure connections. This was made of hollow sections, located at Heathrow Airport. The design of the main structure was developed by Mott MacDonald (the original consulting engineer). The contractors that were overlooking the construction were DHD Engineering, who assigned Eliss & Moore Consulting Engineers.
