We develop software for structural engineers and detailers. Our development team researches, tests, and applies new methods of analyzing the behaviour of structures and their members. Based on this, we created IDEA StatiCa – software that enables engineers to work faster, evaluate requirements of the national code thoroughly, and use the optimal amount of material. For us, creating software is a way to contribute to making every new construction around the world safer and cheaper.

Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy, active in 150 countries – practically in every aspect of the AEC industry – and ranked in 13th place among the Top 225 International Design Firms globally for 2017. Their network of experts tries to see challenges from a fresh angle and find opportunities in complexity. Moreover, they also try to bring together diverse skills, experience and insight to turn obstacles into effective solutions. Overall, they try to add value across all stages to create a beneficial solution. They have been our customer since January 2017 and of course one of our biggest customers in the UK for IDEA StatiCa. Finally, two examples are used to illustrate Matt MacDonald`s utilisation of IDEA StatiCa – Jakarta Velodrome and Waterloo Station.

IDEA StatiCa allows us to design a much wider range of connections, in less time, as well as look into the stiffness behaviour of connections to see how this interacts with the global structural analysis.

Jakarta Velodrome

Mott MacDonald used solutions to extensively to analyse and design complex, earthquake-resistant connections for this iconic and very challenging project: The Jakarta International Velodrome, a venue for the 18th Asian Games of 2018.

Waterloo Station

Britain’s busiest railway station, London Waterloo, is undergoing a £400M upgrade to increase capacity. Mott MacDonald alongside another IDEA StatiCa customer “Bourne Group” are working on this project, comprising of a new infill roof bringing Waterloo and Waterloo International Stations together to form a new single 24 platform railway station.
