About IDEA StatiCa

We develop software for structural engineers and detailers. Our development team researches, tests, and applies new methods of analyzing the behaviour of structures and their members. Based on this, we created IDEA StatiCa – software that enables engineers to work faster, evaluate requirements of the national code thoroughly, and use the optimal amount of material. For us, creating software is a way to contribute to making every new construction around the world safer and cheaper.

Modern construction vs openings in beams

In modern building construction, transverse openings in reinforced concrete beams are often provided for the passage of utility ducts and pipes. These ducts are necessary in order to accommodate essential services such as water supply, electricity, telephone, and computer network.

Condensed superelements – invisible but essential

What made the most realistic connection model behave even more realistically? Until version 21 was released, there were not many ways to model the steel member connections more realistically than using the IDEA StatiCa application. But still, there were situations

Connection design – could it be done even faster?

A huge part of the energy which Structural Engineers spend on their projects is dedicated to time management. There is never enough time to do all the necessary work. And every time-saving practice in everyday routine is greatly appreciated. Let

Are truss models outdated in the 21st century?

IDEA StatiCa has co-operated with Professor Walter Kaufmann and his team at ETH Zurich on the verification and validation of its concrete applications since 2016. In January 2021, Professor Kaufmann published on the ETH website a blog post related to truss models. With his kind permission, we take over and link the article.

Why bother with connection stiffness

In many projects, engineers don’t deal with connection stiffness, although it could be used as a great tool for design efficiency improvement. During the analysis of every structural model, an Engineer has to define the type of each connection between

Buckling needs critical thinking!

Buckling needs critical thinking! Buckling is a sudden change in the shape of a structural component under load, says Wikipedia. When imagined, this is definitely a nightmare to experience. For both, the user of the structure and the engineers responsible

Plugging IDEA StatiCa into the fabrication process

Since the first introduction in the UK in 2015, IDEA StatiCa has transformed the way that Steel Fabricators design steel connections, especially those who are involved in large and complex structures. Through our support services we had the opportunity to

Welded steel connections – to worry or not to worry?

Welds and bolts are the most difficult elements in the design of steel connections. Excel spreadsheets very often simplify their calculation. Modeling them in general FEM programs is complicated because these programs do not offer the predefined sets of elements.

Code checking of a box girder diaphragm according to Eurocode

At IDEA StatiCa, we don’t simply improve the structural design methods, we reinvent them! Our IDEA StatiCa Detail application is able to analyze and design any concrete discontinuity region using the new method CSFM (Continuous Stress Field Method) that eliminates the shortcomings and simplifications of the strut and tie analogy.
