BIM workflows

The challenges faced by the AEC sector now and in the future, are many and varied: projects are becoming increasingly complex, while budgets and time windows grow smaller. More and more project participants must be taken into account and included in the workflow process. New regulations and additional requirements make work that is already challenging even more difficult.
The solution to this increasingly difficult situation can be described with three letters: BIM.
Building Information Modelling is currently a hot topic in the AEC sector.

How does IDEA StatiCa support the BIM workflows?

As a software, we are dedicated to the analysis & design of details (e.g. connections) – which of course are part of a bigger structure and is analyzed or drafted in another software. Following the BIM philosophy, we want to help you speed up the analysis and design process by importing data model from the most widespread FEA and CAD programs, thus saving you a great amount of time but also eliminating possible errors from manual input.

To achieve this, we work very closely with the biggest global software providers like Autodesk, Trimble, Nemetschek, Graitec, and others, to create the links between the different software.

How does it work?

Working with the links is as easy as 1-2-3! You simply install the plugin during (or after) the installation of IDEA StatiCa and depending on the software a dedicated command is created inside your structural or CAD software. This allows you to easily export the connection to IDEA StatiCa and perform the design.

1. Install the plugin

The first step is to install the plugin that will create a command inside your software that will allow you to export the connection. Select the software that you are using and click Install.

2. Select the node

Use the plugin and select the point which will be representing the node. Then choose all the structural members of the joint, the first chosen member will be the bearing one. Lastly, select all the remaining entities of the connection such as plates, bolts, and welds.e.

3. IDEA project is created

The plugin prompts you to save a file, and after that, IDEA StatiCa Connection window will automatically open with the imported geometry, cross-sections and all relative data.
